Podcast

The red army is a hooligan firm who follow the football club Manchester united. They have been one of the largest firms in football.

Hotshot, Manchester united firm leader. young Munich's firm.

Colin Blaney, former united hooligan.

Colin Blaney, also known as "king of the Jack and Jill's" due to his skill at opening tills, has spent years writing Grafters, a book about organised crime and gangs based in Manchester. He has been in and out of jail in countries around Europe, travelling with his "gang", selling illegal merchandise to fans outside concert and football matches. The idea for the book came when Colin was in a German jail, and when he was released he set to work.

This information will come in very handy when debating with Dan about the firms since Colin Blaney has written about his life as a hooligan and from researching into this it has given me lot's of information to use against Dan. This is also going to be really interesting and fun which makes me want to go through with this idea.

Red army vs Roma fans

There was an incident between the red army and Roma fans in the champions league in 2007 where fights kept happening at Roma's home ground with the fans and the police. People were being jumped by fans.

Red army setting fire to Ed wood wards house
Recently "the men in black" who is another firm for united, more modern day hooligans set fire to Ed wood wards house.

Inter city firm
Dan is going to do the most research into the intercity firm but ill do some research into the firm since i will have to know what hes going on about so i am not confused and he will do the same with the red army.

Bill gardener was the firm leader in the 50's who would tell the firm where to meet and what to do at the matches.

Green street
I watched the movie green street to get an idea of what they were like and try to gain more facts about them. The movie was about a group of west ham fans who were part of the firm bring on an american. In the movie there are many fight scenes. Of course its going to be biased since the inter city firm won every time.

My survey

I sent this link out to some people in my class and managed to get three responses. The first question was Do you listen to podcasts? All three said yes which means the people who answered may be interested in my podcast. The second question was do you enjoy listening to them? They all answered yes again which means I've got responses from the right people i need. The third question was would you listen to a football hooligan podcast, Two said maybe and one said no which was a bit disappointing since there feedback might not be positive but it can also be good because i could persuade them to like football hooligan podcasts, the fourth question i asked was does football hooligans interest you at all?, again it would of been better if they liked football hooligans but i can still try and change their mind since two of them said maybe. For question 5 i asked what kind of podcasts they watched and gave them the option to type their answer. I wanted to get an idea of what podcasts they liked so i could research them and do a similar one but with my topic which is football hooliganism. This develops my understanding of what a football podcast is by getting the opinions from different people about the podcast so I know a football hooligan podcast would only interest people who watch and like football because they would have to understand what is going on to be able to enjoy it. For example me and Dan debated on who was the stronger firm, inter city firm or the red army now someone who has never watched football and answered the survey they are more likely to say they wouldn't be interested because they probably wouldn't know what a firm is whereas a football fan would.

The survey helped develop my idea by making me know what people are interested in and what would make them want to watch a football hooligan podcast. From the survey I gathered that people weren't really interested in the football hooligan podcast but I knew I could convince them to watch it. When I asked what podcasts they watched, they were all interested in funny podcasts so this made me realize my podcast has to have elements of comedy in for my audience to be able to watch it and enjoy it which I will make sure I do.

What podcasts do you watch?

Target audience
My target audience for this project will be men from the ages of 18-60 because football hooliganism was big in the sixty's and seventy's the men back then would be rather interested and I also put 18 which is rather young but there are still football hooligans now who are much younger and would most likely find my podcast interesting. I've only gone with men since there were not any women hooligans and I don't think my podcast would interest women. The lifestyle of my target audience would be people who watch football every week and go to the matches, they would also have to have a well paying job roughly 24,000 a year to be able to afford the tickets weekly and still pay their bills and afford food.  I got my dad who is a football fan and 40 years old to listen to the podcast and he said it was very interesting and fun to listen too.

This has developed my idea by me knowing my target audience and know that what we talk about needs to entertain adults and people who find football hooligans interesting but also making it funny for viewers who don't really find it interesting.

Match of the day and the inter city firm vs red army comparison

In the match of the day debates its usually someone who supports or used to play for the teams playing, for example Manchester united vs Liverpool it would be Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher debating with each other about the match that has already happened whereas me and Dan are debating what would happen if the red army and inter city firm met up and had it out. It is similar in the way that Dan is a west ham fan and i'm a Man united fan and we are debating to support are own clubs. In the inter city firm vs Red army, it can be biased because its a podcast and we wouldn't want our club to look weak, whereas match of the day isn't always biased because they are professional and they can sometimes complement the other team by saying for example, That long pass to martial was class! So match of the day is going to be more professional than the inter city firm vs red army podcast.

Why did I make it

From the survey results I had noticed people weren't really interested in my podcast idea so I decided to go with it anyway to try and change there mind, I also asked what they liked and found funny in the podcast so i could use that for my idea. I also gathered a lot of information about football hooligans to be able to talk a lot about it with Dan.

  1. 1. Survey results? We need some information - more than just a list of the questions. You need to also show how this information was useful in deciding how you were going to pitch your sound podcast. Finally it should have helped you decide on your target audience profile in more detail.
    2. Explain how the reach you did DIRECTED you to MAKE THE PODCAST in a particular way - that is the language used and the way discussion was pitched in a debate situation (casual / slang, use of vocabulary, attitudes, Tribalism? etc),
    3. There should be more research in here about the football clubs and information that you have e experienced - possibly as a football fan - for example "going to the match", which I am sure you have - and then the way the culture of football operates - talk about this and compare and contract it with you podcast!
Overall this information has not been APPLIED to your solution!

  2. There is basic research now in this area BUT this information has not been APPLIED to your solution still. Please write how the videos, you knowledge of key people in this area + your survey findings impacted / developed your idea.
